name:R Windsor Rickards
floreat:1866-1939
type:person
message board:message board discussion about this botanist
source:Kent DH & Allen DE. 1984. British and Irish Herbaria. London.

Are there any specimens or information about this collector? I am new o these collections, and am seeking confirmation that the collector RWR who has many specimens in the SLBI is definitely RWRobbins and not Rickards. Any advice apprediated.

Before I saw this I posted a reply to your enquiry about a Rubus - q.v.

R W Rickards's family originally came from Co. Radnor but from c.1800 lived in Glamorgan. RWR's father bought The Priory, Usk in 1888, rebuilding the house and laying out the gardens. He was known as a philanthropist and historian.

RWR was more a horticulturalist than a botanist; however he collected in Monmouthshire vc35 and his plants (39 specimens) are at NMW.
