N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

I can find no Langley place-name in the Cheviot Hills. The same place-name is found, mis-edited, on http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/235092/

'A Flora of Northumberland and Durham' J. G. Baker & G.R. Tate (1868) says:

'M. crispa, L., ... specimens gathered by the late Mr. James Mitchell on the banks of the Wooler Water between Langlee-ford and the town [Wooler].'

... and on the accompanying map has 'Langley Gowt' at around this point.

I think the date is in Babington style (and handwriting), i.e. 'month/day. year' so 10th Sept., 1834. This conforms with sheet 235092, same taxon, location, and date 10/9/1834 (but handwriting most probably Henslow's).

From Babington's Journal we know he was in Edinburgh this day, and did not arrive in Berwick until 10pm, 15th Sept., and left at 8am, 22nd Sept. On the 16th he 'Walked about Berwick' with Dr Johnstone, but no mention of Langley on this or the following days.

I wonder if Johnston was the collector of both these specimens before Babington's arrival and donated them to the latter for transport to Cambridge.

Note: Babington didn't return to Cambridge until 17th October having passed through London the previous day and witnessing the great fire in the Houses of Parliament!
