Holotype. Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist. 19: 86. 1847

Filed in taxon folder:Rubus balfourianus
Collected by:Rev Andrew Bloxam
Collection date:1846
Locality:Great Britain, VC38 Warwickshire, Rugby, SP57
Institution:Charterhouse School Herbarium (GOD)
Image:Rubus balfourianus herbarium specimen from Rugby, VC38 Warwickshire in 1846 by Rev Andrew Bloxam.
phenologyField:FL-M,FL-O
typeSpecimenField:holotype
notes:Mr Babington observes of this and the accompanying variety "I think they are the same species, but they do not agree well with R. salteri having rounder barren stem and decompound panicles. The numerous setae on the panicle is another difference, as R. salteri has none. The lower leaflets seem sessile & not overlapping the intermediate pair, the former point separates it from R. salteri, the latter from R. coryfolius from which also it differs by its glandular panicle. They seem nearly allied to macrophyllus & may perhaps be a new species."

Inferred details are marked.

N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.
