Having done a search of Watson's specimens, he would have had to spend less than 24 hrs travelling to Yorks & back - is this more likely to be near the Beverley Brook, in the area of Richmond Park/ Wimbledon Common where Watson's other specimens were collected - I suppose it depends on the likelihood of finding a cornfield in 1946, perhaps where the golf course or superstore now are, or Tennis Centre & allotments

It can only be Beverley Flat on Wimbledon Common
