named by Rex Alan Henry Graham

ex herb:Mr Charles Bailey
Rex Alan Henry Graham
Institution:Manchester Museum (MANCH)
Accession number:MANCH.366089.Kk803
notes:Handwritten Note:

These plants are not the same. That on the right is, I think, unlikely to be
Mentha rotunidfolia (L.) Huds: I cannot be sure from the state of the plant, but I
suspect it is Mentha aquatica L. The one on the left seems to be (x) [crossed out]
Mentha "x viliaca Jaq van sapida (Tausch) Briquet" - that is to say, it
agrees with the well-known Scottish mint which has been identified
as sapida in the past by several botanists. In actual fact I am
not yet certain whether our Scottish material really is sapida Tausch,
and I hope to clear the matter up before long. I suspect
that the label refers to the plant on the right - I have not
seen, or seen records of, English sapida. More normally
sapida has included stamens.
