Contents |
Dr George Lloyd (1804–1889) was born in Albrighton, Shropshire.
Gained his M.D. (Edinburgh) in 1826 and M.A. (Cambridge) in 1833.
He was one of the founder members of the Warwickshire Natural History and Archaeological Society in 1836.
Honorary Curator of their geological collections until 1855.
Secretary from 1838-1855 and Vice-President from 1855-1885.
In 1864 he left Warwick for Birmingham where he lived until 1888.
He then moved to Berkhamsted, Herts, where he died the following year.
He made numerous donations of geological and botanical specimens to the Warwick Museum in its early years. Dr Lloyd’s herbarium, consisting of some 1250 sheets of plants mostly collected between 1825 and 1843, was in 1923 presented to Kew by Mrs Lloyd (perhaps a daughter-in-law) via the Bournemouth Natural History Society.
