N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

'by ?Tuir / Muir'. Also, the handwriting looks familiar but I can't place it.

I think you are right this must be Philipstoun, but I read the word as Lock, which would refer to the Union Canal, though I gather there never were many locks on the canal if any; the canal runs beside Philipstoun Muir at your grid ref, but I don't read the word as Muir. A mystery to me

PHILPSTOUN LOCH

[situation] About ΒΌ mile South of Philpstoun. A large lake the property of the Earl of Hopetoun; the largest portion of which is on the North side of the Union Canal, and the smallest portion on the South side; they were both united before the canal was cut through it. That on the South side, is at present a deep marsh.
