N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

This looks like the 'M D' (or is it 'M P' or even Prof., Sir Jethro Justinian Harris Teall who gets the blame for most of the illegible initials?!) of Dulwich College. A search for '8/1894' and 'West Sussex' suggests that 'he' was in the county and at Bepton that month in the company of FK Jones and perhaps 'C H T'.

My comment about Teall was a joke really! He is being credited with a lot of specimens from Dulwich where the initials are barely legible despite the fact that these bear little resemblance to his real signature which I put in his Wiki entry, taken from a letter stored in the University of Cambridge library. I would stick with 'M D'.
