Pseudosasa japonica herbarium specimen collected in 1911.
notes:Bambusa laydeckeri [on green tag]
In 1911 I ordered from Barr's two bamboos - on arrival they proved to be both Arundinaria japonica so I preserve specimens in case of future reference (Messrs. Barr fully admitted the mistake & returned the money) but the incident shows that one has to be very careful, others might not be so honest. [Barr's Nurseries in Thornborough, Buckingham]

N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Gamble (if this is his handwriting) reports that Arundinaria japonica was not what he wanted Barr's Nurseries (Thornborough, Buckingham) to supply when he ordered bamboos. If he grew these on in his garden they should be 'cultivated Highfield, Liss, Hampshire'.
