N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Initials written in pencil 'J H B' assumed to be John Hutton Balfour, though they do not look like his handwriting specimen. Balfour taken to be the collector although there are other pencil notes added which are attempts at determination.

The flamboyant penmanship is that of John Sadler (1837-1882) (see http://herbariaunited.org/core/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13204). He was assistant in the Herbarium to John Hutton Balfour and with him wrote Flora of Edinburgh (1863). His name and hand appear often in the current crop of RBGE specimens.
