N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

on review, is the collector not 'M A B',(whoever that was) despite what it says in the letter? Or does M A B always mean Burrell?

I would always worry about the middle letter L or A I agree it is odd that M A B is 'unknown' but lack of any evidence that Miss M L Burrell ever signed her name M A B, I think we have to assume that M A B is possible 'lost'.
Although as more sheets are recorded evidence may turn up.

I have been in communication with the biographer of Mary Ann Brooks (1822-1848) of Flitwick Manor; he has confirmed that there can be no doubt that she is 'MAB'. See 'The Diary of a Bedfordshire Squire' ed Richard Morgan, pub Bedfordshire Historical Records Society vol 66 (1987). Mr Morgan is to write a wiki biog of Miss Brooks for H@H.
