Hi,

I am trying to track down some holotype butterflies described by the Rev. Richard Paget Murray (1842-1908), especially a small blue butterfly Erysichton lineata from Queensland Australia, described by Murray in 1874 as Lycaena lineata (female). There is no record of Rev Murray ever donating his butterfly collection to the BMNH. As his collection of herbaria plant material was donated to various institutions in Great Britain, it is possible he also donated his butterfly collection to one of these herbaria. Therefore I am checking with you as to whether this ever happened.

His actual list of newly described butterfly species were:
Described in 1873
Lycaena phoebe from South Australia and Brisbane Queensland
Lycaena cassioides from Brisbane Queensland, later renamed as L. pseudocassius
Lycaena pryeri from Japan
Described in 1874
Lycaena chinensis from North China
Lycaena pulchra from West Africa
Lycaena lineata from Queensland
Lycaena indica from India
Lycaena parva from South Africa
Lycaena felderi from Queensland

Regards, Roger Grund (Adelaide)
