N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

a reference to Jersey in 1864 is confusing, as there is (presumably!) only one specimen on the sheet

Unless the one tucked underneath is a separate specimen.

The writing is that of the 'unknown collector', who mainly collected in and around Easton in North Essex. Several of these sheets have turned up quite recently - see http://herbariaunited.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1705: a search of the database for Easton between 1850 - 1870 reveals a significant number of sheets with this rather fluid handwriting - and the use of the long S when writing a double S as in Essex.
regards
Chris

John

Many thanks. I too thought it might be 2 specimens, hence my 'presumably!'. Should this be documented as 2 specimens, do you think, or just left as uncertain?

Very Happy

I'm sure your judgement would be better than mine but I'd be inclined to go for two.
