N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

I think you're right, 7th month, 1853; I have noticed on other Mudd sheets from the 1850's, the similarity of 8 & 5, but also a difference of the upper bar of the 5 being detached, and I have also seen this in some other people's handwritings. I must look up copperplate script eg in a library calligraphy book.....?

Thanks Nick.... I'm getting better at reading the handwriting on these labels but some collectors are easier than others. I don't think they would win many prizes for copperplate Wink
