I suspect it says "Chawles" and there are about 8 / 10 sheets ascribed / associated with Chawles but there does not appear to be a Chawles listed in Desmond's Botanists ......... Confused

In 'The Wild Flora of Kew Gardens and Pleasure Grounds'. Journal of Botany 13 (1875) George Nicholson acknowledges help from, inter alia, Mr A. Choules, apparently a member of staff at Kew.
