Just come across a web site MAPCO that has, so far, some 16 GB maps from 18 and 19th Cs plus several overseas, which have been indexed and are searchable. Just used the Surrey one which is excellent - the only trivial drawback is the scale on the old maps seems to vary wildly to fit the artistry so interesting finding a grid by going from a known point on both the old and OS to the loc shown on the old one. The site is free to access but requires permission from, if importing/using the images and acknowledgement of "David Hale and MAPCO website". Recommend a link to it be added to the Maps & gaz page. http://archivemaps.com/mapco/britisle.htm as was a lot easier/better trying to see what is the maps at the Oldmaps site! Mike d'A

After note: I was lucky: only a few of them are indexed but if searching Surrey, Kent, Essex or Dublin which are they are very useful. The rest are very clear so stand a fighting chance of spotting a name if in the right area!
