Born in Richmond, educated Cambridge, then Vicar at Audley End (1841). Then moved back to Richmond, and then on to Cresswell, Northumberland - where he stayed for a long time 1849 - 87 (lived at High Cliffe, Coatham). FLS and a member of the Tyneside Naturalists Field Club - Vice President and then President 73/ 74. An expert on Salix, most of his letters and plants at Kew. Also recorded rainfall etc for Met Office. Died at Redcar.
