N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Tyldesley, SD7001, near Wigan, Lancs, formerly a colliery and cotton town, pronounced 'Tilsly' (was whoever wrote the label a local?), a centre of the thriving early nineteenth century Lancashire 'artisan botanist' movement, possessed its own Natural History Society.

By one of those curious and mildly ironic coincidences, George Ormerod of Sedbury Park near Chepstow, father of the ecomomic entomologist Eleanor Ormerod (see http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/282655/ ) and several other naturalists, derived his income from collieries at Tyldesley.

H@H has other specimens labelled by the same hand, e.g. http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/282655/
