N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Collector - have I read 'William Christy' correctly? Label states 'he died a few weeks ago' - if this was 1839, Leyland was collecting then (though the handwriting does not look quite of that era).

I agree with you. I'm not sure if the collector reads 'William Christy junior' and if so whether this is the 1807-1839 Christy.

R Leyland is Roberts Leyland (1784-1847) so this is an early specimen.

Could this be Orchis purpurea for which O. fusca was a synonym? Upper perianth segments look hooded rather than 'DeLorean gull-wing' as in O. mascula, but it's hard to tell from this specimen. Right county, though.
