N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Curator's note: "A/H = Abinger Hammer?" (Surrey).

Indeed, I did see this faint notation and even captured it and then manipulated it in Photoshop to produce this image

https://sites.google.com/site/235waller/herbaria-home-images

I see the speculative "Abinger" but could make no sense of the "Hatch"?

Turns out there is a pub called The Abinger Hatch, and it is in Surrey,

http://theabingerhatch.com/location.php

but this seemed so wildly speculative to me I didn't know how to credit it. Is there a way to get from wonder to faith in this case?

I am guilty of seeing what I imagined I saw not what I actually saw: it indeed reads 'Abinger Hatch'.

However Beeby has another specimen dated 19/5/1878 from 'Shirley, Surrey' so it is much more likely that "A/H" stands for Addington Hills (Shirley TQ3564) whence there are five other Beeby specimens listed on H@H.

FWIW
Abinger Hatch is referenced in C E Salmon's Flora of Surrey, Beeby handed over the the work of the compilation of the flora to Salmon
