A few weeks ago I added some support for exporting search results (and individual specimens) to Google Earth. I'd kept this fairly low profile as I wasn't sure how useful it was and there may still be some problems to sort out.

To view search results as points in Google Earth, search for the specimens you are interested in then click add the bottom of the page of search results click 'Show in Google Earth'.

The reason I'm posting about this now is that I just noticed that, quite independently of my work, the BSBI has added google earth export to their tetrad-mapping website.

There's a good introductory page about Google Earth on the BSBI's site.

Something that works quite well as a way to spot odd herbarium specimen records is to display the BSBI and herb@home data at the same time (this works fine as the BSBI's maps show hectad squares whereas I've plotted individual specimen data points with drawing pin markers).

e.g.

Wahlenbergia hederacea (BSBI map)
Wahlenbergia hederacea (herbariaunited)
