donated by:John Knox (John Knox purchased a collection of George Don's (containing this specimen) in April 1881 from Robert Blackadder of Dundee. The latter received the collection at the death of his uncle (from Glamis), who bought the collection in 1814 at the sale of Don's property. ) 24/1/1884

notes:Possibly the first specimen discovered in Britain. With specimen
is a letter from John Knox and some typed explanatory paragraphs
from Dr White. The latter says that in Don's original bound
volume this specimen was labelled in Don's writing with 'Carex
ustulata Burnt Carex on Ben Lawers I discovered this in 1810.'
