== biography == Church of England clergyman, lecturer and botanist. Son of Rev Prof John Stevens Henslow. Sometime curate of Steyning, Sussex and headmaster of grammar schools at Warwick and London; lecturer in botany at St Bartholomew's medical school and honorary professor of botany to the RHS. As a lecturer, very popular with amateur gardeners and naturalists, but as a Lamarckian rather than a Darwinian, less popular in scientific circles.
