J. (John) Fraser, horticulturalist and expert on the genus Mentha. Almost invariably signing himself J. Fraser a habit worthy of preservation as it distinguishes him from other similarly named botanists.
Cultivated mints in his gardens at Willow Cottages, and later, 355 Sandycombe Road, Kew.
Born 31st January 1854 Newdeer, Aberdeenshire.
1880-1882 gardener with the Royal Horticultural Society gardens, Chiswick.
1882-1885 Kew.
1885-1886 worked at the Jodrell Laboratory, Kew, returning 1897-1909.
1887-1897 assistant editor, and 1909-1910 editor of the Gardening World magazine.
Died 24 January 1935 at Charing Cross Hospital, London.
