notes: | Conservator of Forests for India between 1888-1919, so it is unlikely that he would have collected (systematically) over long periods in Britain during this period. He returned to the UK circa 1920. |

info from Chris Liffen: The hand writing sometimes comes with an annotation in pencil - H H Haines. The specimens range over a period of 40+ years, and includes periods when Haines was Conservator of Forests in India. However, there were various members of the Haines family who collected plants and insects, including his brother and his nieces. At the moment, it is probably best to ascribe such sheets as ex herb Haines - as they may be associated with the family - though the actual provenance remains a bit of a mystery. |
