notes:'The type occurs also in the same woods. The variety now sent seems to depart from the type in the opposute direction from the variety decipiens, N.E. Brown. I have known teh trees from which the present specimens are snet for many years, but have never before succeeded in obtaining frutification.- A. LEY. "To our thinking this name is untenable, having already been used by Moench ('Methodus,' 1794) for a different plant."- H. and J. Groves. "Assuming P. rotundifolia, 'Lond. Cat.,' ed. 9, i.e. P. latifolia, Syme, to be Aria x torminalis, the present plant would appear to have more Aria and less torminalis in it."- E.F. Linton.' [Botanical Exchange Club report].
