notes: | Growing with C.lanceolatus & one plant of Silybum. A number of spikes were similar, some had been cut off. The bracts are shorter & broader at base than usual ie less lanceolate. Of a fresh specimen sent to Kew, Sir Arthur Hill writes "Apparently Carduus nutans L altho' the possibility of its being a hybrid cannot be entirely excluded. The largest capitulum was not, as you supposed, destitute of florets. On being forced open it appeared to be quite normal" 27 June 1936 (This latter fact surprised me very much I saw no sign of florets HST) |
