Image:Viola arvensis herbarium specimen from Tilston, VC58 Cheshire in 1900 by Mr Anthony Hurt Wolley Dod.
fruits/flowers:mature flowers
notes:V. Deseglisei, Jord? These specimens are drawn up by standing oats. On the margins of the fied the plants were decmbent and much more diffusely branched. It represents, I think, the ordinary V. arvensis of Cheshire. I thought it would fall uner V. ruralis Jord., but Mr. E.G. baker writes :- "Your plant is closely allied to V. ruralis Jord., but in Rouy & Foucaud the clavis character of that species is "Calice ordinairement glabre, non cilie, capsules ovoides, courtes", which cannot be said to agree with your plant. It belongs to the series with median lobe to the stipules foliaceous, and, jugding from specimens we have from M. Deseglise, must be very near V, Deseglise, Jord. A.H. Wolley Dod

Inferred details are marked.
