notes: | Festuca rubra L. var. gemuina subvar. tenuifolia Howarth (Det. W O Howarth, Dec 1923) This tends to confirm Mr Howarth's belief that it extends round the Severn estuary see letter, Dec 17 1923. (Rest of ? given to Reading) From the Victoria University of Manchester, Botany Dept. June 10th 1925 Dear Mr Thompson, The grass you have sent me is F. rubra (gemuina)var. glaucescens (Hack) How. You will notice that here the glumes are somewhat hispid thus conforming to the type descr. by Hegelsch. & Heer. In pruinosa the glumes are smooth. Your plant corresponds to the one as described from Mon. & Glos. in "New Physiologist" (1919 or 20) Yours Sincerely, W O Howarth |
