Herbarium specimen: Linaria vulgaris x repens = L. x sepium

The flowers were very pale yellow -almost white, with a deep yellow palate, and a trace of lilac on the upper lips, a few gland-tipped hairs are present on the pedicels and the large anthers are empty or contain very little pollen. The plant is probably a hybrid between L. vulgaris and L. repens, though the latter is not recorded from North Wales.

notes:Not many plants and all seem to be in one spot. Flowers very pale yellow with orange palate, and a trace of lilac on upper lips, especialy in a ????? state "The large one [Linaria ulgaris] is...growing among heaps of old gypsum moulds in our potter's field; and there are a very few of the small flowered sort growing there also...The flowers[of the latter] are pale yellow with no stripes of any sort as far as I can see and I have not found the striped toad flax here, so I do not think it can be the hybrid mentioned by Sowerby" --Extracted from letter from Mrs Lloyd Edwards, Bryn Oerog near Ruabon, dated August 7, 1918.
