Apparently Venedig is the German name for Venice, and a number of watery holiday spots in Germany are called 'Klein Venedig' or similar. I may have mistranscribed the collector's name?!

He's the man. See Koellensteinia: "The generic name honours Austrian military Captain Kellner von Koellenstein, grower and collector of tropical plants during the 19th century." (1802 - 1883).

He appears to have collected this taxon 'auf dem lido bei Venedig', see page 39 in this document about Beta. The Lido is a sand-bar 11km long, between the sea and the lagoon.
