It looks to me more like "Stoakes". There are a couple of Stokes in Britten & Boulger, one of whom, Whitley Stokes (1763-1865), was a bryologist like Wilson.

There's another Wilson ex herb Schill at MANCH http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/205734/
