I also found it illegible, though my first thought was Mayenne. Townsend collected many specimens in Europe. He has one other specimen after July that summer, from Murren in Switzerland, 3/8/1874 but that is clearly unrelated, as the label is written conspicuously differently. So I can add nothing except that Townsend went abroad around that time! I've checked his other Polygonum specimens, but no clue.
