would it be possible to provide some sort of overlay grid on the specimen image (via a button so that it could be used/removed).

I'm thinking mainly for its use in describing the position of specimens on the sheet. At the moment i using terms like Top left , Middle Bottom, Righthand side etc of sheet..

It may be easier to identifiy the specimen if some form of grid reference for the sheet was available describe the position of the specimen , or other feature being described.
