N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Is the label in H S Thompson's handwriting? (His early hand is very copybook and similar to Langley Kitching's).

Lowne's scripts (if his) were variable over his life; I notice no sample has been saved on his page. I wonder if we could look closer at this as earlier specimens crop up, and also whether the 'menu' could be made to distinguish the two B T Lownes (father and son?). I'm finding his cultivated seedlings rather frustrating, with their lack of info as to date or site of origin, could something be made of his complex code numbers?

When the writer of Lowne's labels writes '10th' what is referred to is 'The London Catalogue of British Plants' edited by Frederick Janson Hanbury, 10th edition, 1908 (Review). Families, genera, and species are numbered consecutively, but independently, from '1 Ranunculaceae; 1 Clemetis; 1 Vitalba' to '98 Characeae; 546 Nitella; 2075 capitata'. Here we have: 79 Orchidaceae; 405 Orchis; 1556 morio. Originally 9d in paper-back or 1/3 for the limp cloth-bound version with inter-leaved blank pages for notes!
