N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

On sheet 376954, another of Sole's Mentha x piperita var. citrata there is 'Flo Som', which doesn't sound like a collector.

In Proceedings of the Linnean Society 1937 Sole is reported thus:

"On 14 July 1795 he introduced himself to Sir James Edward Smith by sending him 'a collection of English Mints in the States before Flowering', including a list, 'A Collection of Mints according to Mr. Soles Flora Somersetensis July 13 : 1795'."

...and:

"He explains that Flora Somersetensis refers only to 'my Garden Catalogue - which consists of ex tempore names - made on the Ground in time of first introducing any Plant in to my Garden'."

That fits with the sorts of species I've seen so labelled. It would make Bath the location, and the plants cultivated. Interesting that he prefers that to naming the wild locations - perhaps indicative of his work as an apothecary?
