N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

Reviewing this, I believe it is C. divulsa. The dark stripes on the lower sheaths; the number of spikes in the inflorescence, and their crowding towards the top; (as far as I can tell) the disposition of male and female flowers. Also the spikes look well enough developed that they ought to be a bit squarrose by now. I would welcome other opinions. There are no modern or historic records of Carex echinata at or near Winchester, and so suitable habitat exists today. It is conceivable that Winnall Moors might have supported it in the past, but probably not by 1932.

There's a pencil note near the label: 'leersii', so it appears that a previous curator shared your doubts about this specimen.

Please feel-free to add/edit the determinations on doubtful sheets like this.
