The convention at most large herbaria is to bar-code each individual specimen on a sheet rather than apply a single code to the whole sheet. Usually when these sheets are sent to herbarium@home for transcription, there is a separate photo per bar-code. The documentation form should include a message at the top indicating which bar-code number to document.
Sometimes the process goes awry:
- For sheets with a single bar-code, but multiple specimens please follow any guidance note displayed at the top of the form (added if the sheet loader noticed the problem); otherwise please document all specimens on the sheet.
- For sheets with fewer bar-codes than specimens please follow any guidance note displayed at the top of the form (added if the sheet loader noticed the problem); otherwise document the indicated specimen and also any others that don't appear to be bar-coded.
- For sheets with spurious extra bar-codes - e.g. where a duplicate label or determination slip has been given a bar-code, please don't document the sheet, instead mark it as faulty using the button near the top of the page.
