WHP is most likely Rev W H Purchas.

Yes I think so - curiously though I find no other Purchas specimens from the county, nor any specimens collected by him that year with either Newbould or Babington

From Babington's Journal, for 23 June 1857: 'He [Purchas], Newbould, Hiley, Stratton, and I went by train to Waterbech, and then walked to Upware, and went to Wicken Fen. Found Viola stagnina [persicifolia], etc.'
