I couldn't help wondering is there more than one Hob Moor in Yorkshire; this label isn't very legible but looks like NW York and curator has written VC 65 - which is more Baker's area; http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/382748/ is a twin sheet but the label hardly more helpful. Hob Moor in MW Yorks is part of Walmgate Stray, York.

"Hob Moor Local Nature Reserve is part of the Knavesmire, one of York's ancient commons" - so says http://www.york.gov.uk/info/200417/nature_reserves/205/nature_reserves/4

The area is very close to the meeting point of three vice Counties. My rule is that the Collector (almost) always knows where he is and Baker has certainly written "N W Yorks."

In his magnificent 'North Yorkshire' (1863) Baker writes "Carex axillaris: plentiful amongst the brickponds at Hob Moor near York."
