N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

I've taken Little Chelsea as the area on Fulham Road, Chelsea, 'the name continued to be used until the hamlet was surrounded by residential developments in the late 1800s' - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Chelsea 2) Florence? Once again I am confused by a Townsend label that has handwriting similar to J Woods' but the date not in Woods' format. Townsend was born 1822. Woods was in Italy in 1826 and 1832, and also has numerous undated sheets from Italy. For such a sheet, which also has a label similar to this one, but with J Woods' monogram, see http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/324142/?image

Little Chelsea is on the OS 1st edition map
.

Did Woods realise that if he had written '258' it would be ambiguous?

Very interesting - though I don't see what ambiguity you've spotted?
