N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

How do we know this Holm Island is the one off Skye? If this is right, it is in NG55 not NG54. There is this species on Skye itself just nearby.

Thanks for pointing this out Stephen.

The 'knowledge' of site locations resides in the database gazetteer, and many locations have been pre-loaded. Holme Island data currently show 'full grid ref string: NG5149' and 'short form grid ref: NG54', and it is the latter that appears on the pick-list when editing. It is this location that showed on the list when the name from the scrap of newspaper was entered.

I will change the grid references to NG5251 and NG55.

I notice, however, that the bedrock map in wheresthepath implies that the island consists of 'LITTLE MINCH SILL-COMPLEX - BASALT AND MICROGABBRO', which although basic rocks can hardly be described as 'limestone'.

Could the location intended be the limestone islands of either Flat Holm (VC41) or Steep Holm (VC6), in the Bristol Channel?

OS Grid reference NG5251

I also wondered about it being one of the many other Holm Islands, which is why I asked how we know it to refer to the one off Skye. As you say it has no limestone - on the other hand it almost certainly has Eupatorium!

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holm_%28island%29 for a list of the many Holm Islands - many of which are in Scotland.
Best,
Stephen
