in a number of cases a later label - usually, it seems, one of the Mott / Bailey ones (I just love that - my historian friends thought I was making it up when I told them) covers earlier information on the sheet, this results in data (collector or site or date) being impossible to read

I would suggest that in future in such instances two images (or a combined image) are presented to herbaria@home cataloguers

it's a pity that with all the work involved on the part of many people, avoidable stumbling-blocks like these occur

Hi Chris,
We do need a way to present information which is covered in the photos. Currently the emphasis of the photography has been speed, but hopefully not generally at the cost of quality or label details.

I hope that the problem you've encountered affects very few sheets and at present, until a better solution is worked out, the best response for documenters may be to click the 'faulty photo' button, and to move on to the next sheet. Images that are marked as faulty will either be re-photographed or documented in-house.

In the future for difficult sheets we'll aim to either take multiple pictures, as you suggest, or to transcribe any obscured details onto a card which is photographed with the sheet.

I'm embarrassed to say that (even having seen it hundreds of times) I'd never picked up on that apposition of names until now.... Smile
