N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

I think this says Alvington, North Devon, does this place exist?

There is an Alvington is Gloucestershire.
However, there is another Ley sheet for 20/9/1882 which reads Arlington, Devon
http://herbariaunited.org/sheets/BIRM/985.jpg - so perhaps he muddled the name a bit.

Sorry, having read David's note below; went back and had another look. Correction to above : the Arlington sheet is dated 21/9/1882. However, there are two sheets for Bideford on the 20th, and looking around there have found Alwington

OS Grid reference SS405235

In fact there is an Alvington in Devon SX7243. Ley generally knew where he was even if he sometimes mutilated the spelling of placenames in Wales or Scotland. The Link to Maps and Gazetteers will usually help you to find a place unless it is very insignificant.

Confusing though, as the [West] Alvington at SX 74 is in S Devon, not N Devon as labelled by Ley. There is a wood there though. Have entered anyway, with caveat, as I agree most likely.
