S. alpina was first found in Britain by White at this site the previous year (1897)

J E Lousley in 'Wild Flowers of Chalk & Limestone' (Collins New Nat) writes that it was found here in 1897 for the first time in Britain by Cedric Bucknall (I find none collected by him in H@H)
