N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

I'm pretty sure these old Mantua and Montserrat sheets are exchange club specimens collected by Leighton. Can't make out the Guillon one, though - that's a different collection altogether.

The scrappiness of so many of these Bolton labels makes me wonder (or hope?) are they all better-catalogued somewhere under the Accession numbers?

I think in some cases the accession number may give a broad indication of the source (e.g. Prince of Mantua and Montserrat) but probably not any more information about localites/dates/collectors.

I'd like to know more about this prince. My impression is that he must have bought a collection of specimens that had been put together by someone from Exchange Club material in a very sloppy fashion. You can't really blame Bolton Museum (although there's little evidence of any curation at thir end) but the collection is almost useless if we can't cross-check the specimens against records from elsewhere. This will be an ongoing task, and once they are all digitized (however imperfectly) it will become easier. Interestingly enough, only Herbaria at Home offers us a chance of doing this, so I'm very glad BON decided to participate.
