am sure this is Stover Canal, Devon, as all other Jordan specimens are from Devon

I agree and am editing in, Devon between Kingsteignton & Bovey Tracey; and these typed labels are very notorious for (poor) guesswork. A long ornamental lake is known in Suffolk as a canal, but a moat isn't. See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stover_Canal
