Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names. Log-in to edit this sheet.

- No herbarium detailed but the sheet matches the LK specimen also from Golden Valley at http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/269292/
I can't make out the word/signature/date before 1898 on the top specimen label. Any ideas?

Thanks......but there is also one in Gloucestershire, another in Derbyshire and seemingly several in Scotland....LK seems to have collected pretty well every across GB in 1898, if it was him that collected the specimen, but the writing looks different so not much to go on to tell which it might be ....unless can figure out did collect it.. any idea what the squiggle before 1898 is? |

Think that you have extracted all that there is on the label ! only offering I can suggest is that it says April 1898. If April 98, then other LK specimens seem to be 'local' (assuming it is Kitching).

Many thanks: Turned out there is a Golden Valley in Worcestershire as well fitting in with his living up at Bewdley in April 98. Amended. Mike d'A
Also suggests that for LK specimen:
http://herbariaunited.org/specimen/281464/
from "Arley, Nr Bewdley" in 09/04/1898 should be one of the Worcestershire Arley's (Wood or Ho) not Staffs (I can't trace any) unless there is some reason I'm missing???. |

That was interesting - the OS map has an Arboretum label at the Bodenham farm site (SO806814) on the southern edge of the the woods that include Arley Wood. While 4kms away Arley House also has the Arboretum from your link (unlabeled by OS) that has been about since 1820 - I'd also somehow managed to wrongly get both showing up as in Worcs VC not Staffs where they actually are. Hence amended and 'unamended'

The Bewdley Snuff Mill web page (with photos) says it was located in 'Golden Valley, near Tickenhill'.
Both Tickenhill and the disused mill are shown on the OS 6" map of 1929 suggesting that the valley is that running to the west, containing Snuff Dingle Wood, OS SO7874. |
