Apology: problems with the web-site for the past week

The website was off-line for a week (from 2nd December till the 9th). This was due to hardware problem, probably triggered by a power-cut, while I was away photographing specimens at the South London Botanical Institute).

The outage resulted in corruption of one of the hard-disks storing the software and image data and despite my efforts to make things more robust following the previous failure in June this again caused considerable problems and required a complete reinstall of the system.

No data was lost during the system failure.

The site is now back on-line and appears to be working correctly, but if you notice any problems then please let me know.

I'm very sorry for the disruption and for the time it has taken to bring the web-site back online - I very much hope there will be no further repetition of these problems and will take further steps to improve the disaster recovery plan and to make the system less vulnerable.
