N.B. reporting of the edit history is currently fairly unclear and misleading. Most edits made to specimens appear as a pair of 'add' and 'delete' entries, which may not be together in the list. There are also often 'minor' edits, which are made automatically (rather than due to user activity), for example to merge synonym names.

For the second time, I have selected Mr John Edwards Griffith, while noticing the first name appeared different. One specimen collected jointly with Ley (Anglesey, different date) http://herbariaunited.org/sheets/BIRM/16204.jpg was fairly clearly inscribed 'Jno E Griffith', as this one also less clearly appears to be. In this case there is a suspicion of a terminal 's'.

Jno was a common abbreviation for John.

I can't find a good online reference for this at the moment, but if someone can then please post a link as a list of abbreviations would be good to have.

(other very frequent ones are Jas=>James, Thos=>Thomas, Wm=>William)

Thank you Smile
I was sure I'd seen that page (or something very similar) before, but I couldn't find it again.
